A decommissioning job does not arrive sorted. A closing production line is structural steel, motors and cable, a few tonnes of polymer, and a store room of retired computers — and each of those ends up at a different kind of plant, under a different set of rules, with a different piece of paper at the end of it.

Handling that as a customer means running three procurements and reconciling three sets of documentation. Handling it as a single trader usually means one firm subcontracting quietly and putting its own name on work it did not do.

We took the third option. One contractor accountable for the whole job, directing the work across all three plants — with the performing facility named on every line and its own credentials attached to it. It is more paperwork for us and considerably less ambiguity for whoever is evaluating the bid.

Every tender is read, agreed with each facility and signed off by the founder personally. If something in a bid turns out to be wrong, there is no ambiguity about whose answer it was.
